The most important lesson I have learned about type 2 is something that I really should have learned before the onset of this bastard of a disease.
GOYA - Get Off Your Ass It seems so simple now. The more food you put in your mouth, the more your body needs to work it off. If you eat enough food to have the energy to run a marathon, your body expects a marathon. When you don't give it the marathon, it produces insulin to remove the sugar. Over time your body builds up a resistance to insulin and WHAM! You have a disease called diabetes.
A 2 mile walk in the evenings can reduce my blood sugar by 40 points. Not to mention the other benefits to my cholesterol, blood pressure, weight control, and mental health.
2 miles! A half an hour. It is so small a sacrifice that I should have been doing this all along and then I might not have this disease.
So GOYA!!! Get off your ass and get moving. After awhile, my body starts to crave movement. I can feel laziness creep back into my body so I go exercise and push it back.
GOYA GOYA GOYA GOYA!!!

notmytype2
This is my little space to chat about living with type2 diabetes. Let me start off saying how much I hate the word diabetes. Just the sound of it sends the common folk running in terror; like it's a death sentence - 'oh, do the shots hurt?' 'how long have you known?' What they want to ask here is 'how long do you have to live?'
So I hate diabetes, but I have it. But it's still not my type.
